Start with your household
Think about local hazards, the people and pets in your home, and whether you may need to stay home or leave. Make a household emergency plan and follow official warnings.
Cover the essentials
- Water and food: Store safe drinking water and food your household can prepare during a disruption. Include a manual can opener and consider cooking-water needs.
- Light and information: Keep a torch, spare batteries, a battery radio and charged power banks accessible.
- Health and hygiene: Include first-aid supplies, personal medicines, hygiene items and individual care needs.
- Shelter and clothing: Pack practical bedding, weather protection and sturdy clothing.
- Documents and contacts: Keep copies of important documents, contact numbers, keys and cash in a protected place.
Check your kit regularly
Test equipment, review food and medicine dates, refresh stored water as appropriate and make sure everyone knows where the kit is kept. An emergency food pouch may still require safe water and a heat source.
Use official advice
For a detailed Australian checklist, see Get Ready Queensland’s emergency kit guide. Product purchases support preparedness; they do not replace local emergency advice or evacuation instructions.
